The Gossiping Goddess Giveaway and Blog Hop

A while back I told you about a giveaway that Lesley Watt did on her blog The Gossiping Goddess.  I was one of the lucky winners of some adorable lampwork glass beads handmade by Kaz Baildon.

I showed a sneak peek of what I received in this post and, of course, I forgot to take pictures of the beads Lesley sent me before I started playing with them.  I  had lots of ideas for using these triangular beads but I went back to my first thought when I saw them which was earrings, they just scream earrings don't they?

The colors of the beads are teal and baby blue, I paired this with an opaque blush pink and dark cranberry.  I think they look Christmas-ee, in a Dr. Suess kinda way...don't you?

Thanks Lesley for hosting this fun giveaway and blog hop.  I also received 4 spacer beads in the same teal color that I will be using soon!

Maybe I will use some Christmas money and get myself one of Lesleys gorgeous textured metal clay components to go with them!

I am going to go see what everyone else made...come with me and check out these great artists!  Don't forget to leave a comment below, I love to hear from you.

Reveal Day - 2012 Challenge of Color

Here is the challenge...I was given a choice of two color palettes to work with.  Here is the one I chose.
I just love anything in the "berry" family.

Add caption

I am always drawn to greens and blues in my designs.

The printed version of the USGS photo has different colors than the version on my computer screen which made it even more of a challenge!

I started and stopped several times before I came up with these three designs.

 What did I learn?
1.  I need more beads!
2.  Don't wait so long to get started.
3.  Erin is awesome...I already knew that!

Hope you like what I made...please share your comments with me below.

Also, enjoy the rest of the wonderfully talented artists in this challenge...

Blog Hops and Holiday Swaps 2012

I am so excited about the upcoming weeks!  I have three different beady type events coming up:

#1
I was accepted into Erin Prais-Hintz's Challenge of Color...I am beside myself with excitement about this one.  Erin is the first artist I really admired when I started this journey into jewelry.  The first blog hop I entered just happened to be her very first Challenge of Color.  At that time I had no blog...or concept of what I was doing.  Erin was such a doll, she made me feel welcome and I admired and appreciated that in so many ways.  I have learned a lot since then and I still appreciate and admire Erin...probably even more now.

This challenge is, of course, based on color.  Erin from Tesori Trovati Jewelry and Brandi Hussey of BrandiGirlBlog got together this year and HOLY WOW, the color palette's are incredible!  You really need to click on the Challenge of Color Link above to read how it all came together.  Erin tells it so well...

Earth as Art SeriesHere is a sneak preview of my color palette, isn't it just gorgeous?

Reveal day is Friday, Nov 30th
so please come back to see what I do with it.

#2
Lesley Watt, The Gossiping Goddess, and owner of THEAJewellery and THEAtoo Components has been very generous this year with a Free Beads Giveaway.  I was lucky enough to be one of the winners of her stash.

There is a catch though...we have to actually make something with these lovely beads she shared.  How dare she ;P

Two of the beads Lesley sent me are in this picture.  Can you guess which ones?

Reveal day is Wednesday, Dec 12th.  Be sure to come back then to see what all the winners have come up with.

#3
Lori Anderson put together a fun Holiday Gift Exchange 2012 for the Bead Soup Cafe group (our BSBP Facebook Group).  I am paired with a fellow bead lover and jewelry designer, Melissa.  Lori paired those of us who signed up but she is leaving it up to us to decide on the rest like cost, dates, etc.  Once we exchange gifts I will post mine here to share with you!

I have more exciting news coming but I think this is really enough for one post so sorry but you'll have to wait.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Two Giveaways to Share With You!

I have been blessed with some sweet deals and generous gifts lately so I decided to share some of this bounty with you!   I just love giving gifts so here are 2 great giveaways...

I thought about combining this giveaway with a Pay It Forward game I am playing but I think I will save that for tomorrow's post. Check back tomorrow for that!
Giveaway #1

My favorite part of this giveaway is the GORGEOUS emerald cuff bead I bought from CapturedMoments on Etsy.  I have also included two beautiful lampwork beads I also got on Etsy.  The person I got them from was just destashing his stuff so he could move.  You would not believe what I got and how little I paid (I felt like I had robbed him blind).  He is a jewelry artist himself so it wasn't like he didn't know what he had!  Also included are some green beads I received in a fun trade, 2 keys, some starfish, a blank tag and some tiny opaque green luster melon beads.

Giveaway #2

This giveaway has 2 beautiful Agate Focal beads all ready to use as pendants or in a jewelry design (these were also part of that fun trade).  There are 4 flat rectangular faceted beads, 6 carved bone looking beads (actually acrylic), some copper beads and another one of those lampwork beads I was telling you about.

Oooh AND...I will be dividing up this killer stash of silk pieces that were given to me.  The sender wanted nothing in return except she asked that I give what I don't need to someone else.  I grabbed a few for myself and used some in my BSBP Necklace.  Here are the rest:

Quick Update:  the silk will be split between the two giveaways so both winners will get some!!
If you would like to enter and you are NOT into making jewelry I will be happy to gift you these earrings I made instead (even if you ARE into making jewelry and you would rather get these, just let me know)!
How to WIN!
Required:
1.  Join my Blog (or just let me know you are already a Blog friend)
2.  Tell me which giveaway you would like to win (no guarantees, especially if both winners pick the same one)
Extras:
3.  Share this post on your Blog or FB Page
4.  Like my Facebook page: TealwaterDesigns
Please leave a separate comment for each of the choices above.  Each comment you leave will count as one entry.  I will use the random.org generator to choose winners on Saturday, Sept 8th around noon.
Don't forget to check back tomorrow for the Pay it Forward game!
Thanks and Good Luck!
Cory
UPDATE 09-08-12  We have 2 winners!                                   First let me say THANKS to everyone who entered!!  Each entrant had a chance of 4 entries (see #1-4 above).  I didn't count the 2 deleted entries or additional entries over 4 so there were a total of 57 possible entries in this giveaway...Yuk, I don't like this technical stuff!!                          Winners are....#41 Plum Valley    and #10 Michaledas

It's Almost Over

Today is the 3rd and Final Bead Soup Blog Party (BSBP) Reveal.  It's so exciting and kinda sad to think it's almost over.  Lori Anderson sent out a sweet little post card thanking me for joining in the fun and inviting me to her next hop (I think it is in Feb).

I can't imagine not doing it at this point since I have learned so much and met so many fabulous jewelry designers, bead makers and genuinly awesome people.

Once all the excitement dies down and I get my supplies a little more organized I will be doing a GIVEAWAY!!  Some of it will be a Pay It Forward from a great stash I was given and the rest will be from the best bead deal I think I will EVER get.

I happened to be in the right place at the right time on Etsy when someone was about to move and needed to destash.  I was lucky enough to grab up about 30 orphaned lampwork beads for a ridiculously low price and I want to share some with you!  Check back soon, maybe I can get it together for Labor Day weekend?

My 1yr Cancer Free Anniversary - Better Late Than Never

I meant to post this on August 15th which was my actual 1yr cancer free anniversary but you know how life just gets in the way?    So let's just celebrate the month of August and I won't feel like the procrastinator I am.

I have actually wanted to tell this story for a while, I want every woman (and man) to know that cancer doesn't have to be THE END!   I am not saying that all cancer can be prevented or cured, what I am saying is do what you can to DETECT early and take care of yourself.

I have always been the type of girl who took her yearly exams seriously.  There were a few years in my late 30s where I was uninsured and I did my best to still get a regular exam.   I guess I always felt that if something is wrong let's find out now and fix it!  Don't get me wrong, I can stick my head in the sand with the best of them for some things (like paying bills) but I like my life and I am not ready to leave yet.

So, here's how it happened (as much as I can remember):
I remember joking (kinda) with my hubby that Aunt Flo seemed to be hanging around for 3 weeks out of the month...it's weird how you can get used to very annoying things if they don't come on all of a sudden.  This happened over about a year, it was a slow progression and it didn't cause a whole lot of alarms in my head.  I had always been very healthy and other than chronic back pain (a whole other story involving water skiing, or trying to) I was problem free!

So, I decided to mention this annoyance to my GYN when I went for my yearly and she was telling me about this procedure called an ablation they could do to "reset" me and hopefully fix the problem.  I was interested...I have never been a fan of elective procedures but if this can fix my problem why not?

They had to do an ultrasound first to see if I was a good candidate for this ablation procedure.  I can remember the Dr. telling me, while the ultrasound was happening (not the most comfortable position to be in), that the texture of my endometrium looked "weird" (that's technical doctor lingo).  She had a concerned look but I just thought she was being over dramatic.  She told me she wanted to get in there and test some of the lining to see why it looked like that.

So, this meant the ablation was out for now but a D&C was in order and she could do that in her office...Um, NO!  I can handle a fair amount of pain but this didn't sound like something I wanted to try out while awake!  Sedation sounded so much better.  So, we scheduled the procedure which was going to kill 2 birds with one stone...it would re-set my system and she could take a sample of the endometrial lining to run tests on.

The procedure went well, I had an appointment set in 2 weeks to find out the results.  I was told, "if we find anything we will call you, otherwise just come see us in 2 weeks"...okay great!  The 2 weeks went by and no calls so I felt good going to the appointment...by myself!!

Okay so I could go on about how furious I was (and still am) at this doctors office for not calling me and hitting me with the Big C when I was by myself expecting just some routine test results but I won't!

Back to the reason for this loooong post...I don't have too many soapboxes but this is definitely one.

Go to your doctor!!

Tell them the stupid, annoying things that you might think are nothing...let them decide.  Get blood tests, pap tests, mammograms and all the routine tests and exams you should be getting.  If you don't have insurance call the mammography place in your town and see if they have any programs that will help.  Call different GYNs and see if they can help.  I got my first mammogram free when I had no insurance because of some grant they had available.

I am so grateful that I spoke up.  My cancer was stage 1 very early detection, I had a full hysterectomy which was done robotically...so cool!  I didn't have to have any of my lymph nodes removed because it was caught so early it hadn't moved into other parts of my abdomen yet.  I was up walking the next morning after my surgery  with very little pain and home for a few weeks recovery.  Now, a year later I feel healthy and happy and ALIVE!!!

Please Take Care of Yourself!

Time for the BIG Reveal!

Time for the 6th Annual BSBP R-E-V-E-A-L...

If you didn't see my post about the bead soup Jami Shipp sent me check this post out first: http://tealwaterdesigns.blogspot.com/2012/07/my-bead-soup-has-arrived.html

The agate focal I received in my bead soup is very much outside of my color comfort zone since I usually lean toward brighter colors.  I was really glad though because one of my reasons for joining this party is to stretch my creativity.

I wanted to really jump in to this bead soup so I looked through my bead stash to see what I had that would work well with the focal and I decided to pair it with some turquoise beads (howlite maybe).

Here is the necklace I made...
The toggle was copper which was great because I have been playing with copper lately. I was thrilled to use a metal I haven't used a lot but I really love!
The copper wire I had  was very bright and shiny which was not going to work.  I decided to antique it to match the toggle color better.  I put the wire into a bowl of vinegar and sea salt for a minute then let it air dry without wiping it off which worked very quickly in turning my wire dark and giving it a patina very quickly.
The tiny brown disks are shell beads from Michaels. I love the deep turquoise color of these little beads.
I got the silk pieces from Suzanne Berk a super sweet lady, a fellow artisan and HUGE animal activist...love that!!
I went much more artsy than I usually do and I got to use some new materials and techniques that I am happy about.

I also wanted to use the beautiful flat shell coins I got so here is a bracelet that also has some of the same tiny shell disks I used in the necklace.

I handwrapped a tiny bell glass flower on a bronze ball headpin as well as a crystal in champagne ab.

I would love to hear what you think so feel free to comment below.

Now, on to the rest of the party, check out these blogs for many more reveals...
